Raspberry Pi equipment:
- Raspberry Pi 2 Model B+
- 8 GB Micro USB
- USB Wifi
- 5v 2.5a PSU
To begin with I installed Motion onto my Raspberry Pi and then edited the motion.conf file where all the settings are stored. I have the webcam placed on my window sill overlooking the path/entrance to our house. I needed to use a glue-gun ti insulate the electronics of the camera module so it is now water-proof.
The motion program detects changes in light/colour of the pixels from the camera and when activated takes a photo then sends that to my email address. I have run into a problem whereby the motion.conf file needed to be changed otherwise it would fill up the SD card with hundreds of images (I used the unix command df -h to check the capacity used on the SD).
The motion.conf file is large and too big to explain here but it allows you to set the variables needed to capture images and change the quality etc.
